Have a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving

There’s no reason you can’t enjoy all your favorites at Thanksgiving while considering your health at the same time. Keep this in mind as you gather around the dinner table this Thanksgiving:

  • Get a little exercise before the feasting begins. Go for a walk with family and friends earlier in the day or participate in your community’s local Turkey Trot.
  • If you’re bringing one or two dishes to the party, substitute low-fat or lower in sugar ingredients in your recipes.
  • Eat slowly and savor every bite. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to register how much food you’ve consumed.
  • Have a little of everything, but start with smaller portions.
  • Monitor your level of “fullness” as you’re eating and push back from the table when you feel satisfied, not stuffed.
  • Most importantly, feed your soul as well as your stomach. There is no better time to laugh, share and connect with family and friends.
